Description

This NESA accredited proficient teacher professional learning course, equips educators with the knowledge and strategies to create trauma-responsive classrooms. 

Participants will explore the impact of trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on student behaviour and learning. 

The course introduces practical, evidence-based approaches to support students' mental health and promote positive behaviour.
 

Through engaging presentations, group discussions, and practical activities, educators will learn how to establish predictable routines, manage challenging behaviors respectfully, and foster safe, inclusive learning environments.

Key models and strategies covered include High Impact Engagement Strategies, Collaborative Proactive Solutions, and self-regulation techniques to mitigate stress and build resilience in students.


Participants will leave the course with actionable strategies to apply immediately in their classrooms, creating environments where all students feel safe, engaged, and supported in their learning journey.

Outcome

Participants will:
• strengthen understanding of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma, and its impact on student cognition, learning and behaviour.
• deepen understanding of self-regulation and co-regulation techniques to mitigate challenging behaviours and promote positive interactions and behaviour.
• strengthen knowledge and understanding of responding to challenging behaviours in respectful ways that mitigate further escalation and respond effectively to de-escalate and co-regulate.
• develop knowledge to implement inclusive strategies that engage and support students of all abilities in classroom activities.
• strengthen knowledge and understanding to maintain predictable routines and minimise disruptions to student learning and behaviour.
